Walking around Cairns

Cairns is at the base of a big hill, but the city centre is reasonably flat. Walking is a scenic option, but in the wet season you'll end up very hot and very wet, especially if you're caught in an afternoon thunderstorm. It's a tropical city, so make sure you take a water bottle with you if you're going any great distance.
