The World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef consists of a huge and varied ecosystem of over 900 islands and has the honour of being the world's largest single structure created by living organisms. Due to it's vast biodiversity, the reef is a popular location for activities such as scuba diving and snorkelling with Cairns and Port Douglas being popular destinations to set out from. Accommodation is also available on some of the many islands with eco tourism being a common goal.
