A British tourist found floating unconscious in the ocean while snorkelling in north Queensland has died in hospital. The 39-year-old man was snorkelling with a woman at Nudey Beach on Fitzroy Island, off Cairns, about 2.40pm yesterday.

FEARS that equine influenza (EI) had spread to Queensland’s north have eased after secondary tests on horses returned negative results. On Friday, the horse flu was thought to have been discovered in Julia Creek in Queensland’s northwest and at Gordonvale near Cairns.

Three teenagers missing after going on a fishing trip in Queensland’s far north have been found at a Cairns’ residence. The trio, aged 15, 17, and 18, left Yarrabah, east of Cairns, in a dinghy yesterday morning for Batt Reef, off Port Douglas.
