Great Barrier Reef Masters Games 2013
From 8 to 11 August in 2013, Cairns will host the inaugural Great Barrier Reef Masters Games. Presented by the team behind the Gold Coast’s biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games using the same successful blend of sports and social programs, this exciting new event will see thousands of masters-aged men and women from across Australia, Oceania and South East Asia take part in this history-making event.
The Cairns region is Australia's closest and easiest access point to the Great Barrier Reef and the only destination where two World Heritage areas lay side by side, the iconic Great Barrier Reef and Australia’s Wet Tropics Rainforest.
Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef are Australia’s premier tropical destination with a passion for sport offering the perfect combination of stunning diverse natural beauty supported by extensive sporting infrastructure. The region boasts award-winning venues, extensive facilities and professional support services, all working together to ensure the smooth delivery of this first Great Barrier Reef Masters Games.
