Cairns Travel Distances

As Cairns and the area of Tropical North Queensland is quite a long way from all the Australian capital cities (1700 kilometres from the closest capital city, to be exact), if you're coming from overseas or even interstate, chances are you'll be flying directly into Cairns Airport.

Hiring a car is a great way to get from the airport to your accommodation in Cairns and also means you're free to explore the area at your own pace, otherwise an airport transfer is the way to go.

Most car hire companies offer GPS hire as an optional extra so you should just be able to plug in your destination and be on your way. We've provided the following information however to help you plan your holiday before you leave.

While Cairns itself is a pretty great little holiday town, if you're visiting, you are going to want to check out the rest of what the region has to offer - the Atherton Tablelands, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest just to name a few!
