The Cooktown Lighthouse - Picture Tour

The Cooktown Lighthouse

James Cook spent much of his time in 1770 on top of Grassy Hill watching the changing tides, reef structures and most probably admiring a beautiful sunset or two which are quite a rarity on the Queensland coast. Sitting on top of Grassy Hill now is the lighthouse which was built in England and shipped over to Cooktown in 1885. It continued to guide ships for the next 100 years until technological advances made it obsolete. The hill is still a fantastic place to enjoy a sunset as the sun descends into the ocean.
